Other Opportunities

There are a lot of ways you can serve your community with Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity! Here are some areas in which your help is needed:

  • Home Expo Volunteers Needed. Like to meet and greet people? Want to help Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity for a couple hours in March? We are seeking volunteers 14 and older to work individually or in small groups to help us at the Home Expo, March 7-10 at the Old Sam's Club in Portage. We will be taking and selling tickets and welcoming visitors to the annual event. Each volunteer will receive one free admission to the expo. To volunteer, contact Jane, our volunteer coordinator, at 344-2443, ext. 204 or vc@habitatkalamazoo.org.
  • Skilled Supervisors. Volunteers with skills in construction are needed to lead other volunteer groups on Saturdays. Training or teaching experience desirable. Time commitment: supervise one Saturday group per month. Required planning meetings with KVHH Construction Manager will be scheduled once a month or less.
  • Data Entry and Clerical Support. Computer-savvy volunteers are needed to help maintain our database. We need help entering volunteer hours and information, and updating our mailing list. Time commitment: 2 - 4 hours a week, Monday - Friday.
  • Lunch-time Receptionists. Answer phones and greet customers in our office during lunchtime on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, 11:45 am - 1:15 pm.
  • Habitat Gardeners. Help tend our garden. This plot, behind Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, accepts donations of perennials, shrubs, and trees which are used to landscape Habitat homes. We need volunteers to keep the beds weeded, mow the grass between the beds, and tend the plants. Time commitment: variable.
  • Family Selection Coordinators. Help recruit and evaluate potential home buyers. Includes community outreach, assisting with workshops, and monthly committee meetings. Time commitment: varies with workload. Can work a few afternoons or mornings each week as needed (6 - 10 hours per week). Flexible schedule. Should have good communications skills and commitment to our mission.
  • Special Events Team. Help prepare and present special events with KVHH. This includes receptions, open houses, and outreach events like the Home Expo. Time commitment: variable.
